ABOUT PHILLY

Come along to our meetups to improve your art in a relaxed and social atmosphere, and under the guidance of a professional instructor. Complete beginners to experienced artists all welcome.

Our 2 hour meetups are held in a different location each time, usually outdoors.

Bring your own materials which can be anything from pencils or pastels, to watercolour or oils.

If you are a complete beginner all you need to start are a couple of good drawing pencils, a rubber, and a drawing pad.

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to experienced artists. The instructor is there to help everyone.

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Arnab Gan Choudhury
Arnab Gan Choudhury is an interdisciplinary artist who completed his BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2021 and his MFA from The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2024. His career began early with a solo exhibition at age four at the Nehru Children's Museum, Kolkata. He has since held solo shows at Birla Academy of Fine Art and Gaganendra Shilpa Pradarshashala in Kolkata, and Gateway 1 Gallery, Maryland.
Arnab's work has featured in group exhibitions across India, the USA, and Bangladesh, including prestigious venues like the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata and the Monmouth Museum in New Jersey. His public sculptures are installed at EZCC Aikataan, Salt Lake, and the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Kolkata. He has earned several accolades, including the Edmund Stewardson Prize, the Patricia Bell Cuddy Memorial Award, The Mary Butler Trust Fellowship, and the Eagles and Angels Award.

Title or Location: Through Water Comes Friendship
The painting depicts a view from the beach along the Schuylkill River, where paddlers launch their boats. This location has fostered numerous connections and friendships among the paddling community. Having been a competitive paddler for over 23 years, I find this place allows me to unwind, enjoy the water, be with friends, and appreciate the stunning Philadelphia skyline.

Title or Location: Smell the rain?
Oil sketch, 11?x14?. This is my first attempt with oils after a 38 year career as an exhibit designer. Started with quick turp washes, then built up some detail. I was going to continue, but I kind of like it the way it is. Anxious to start another, and having fun.

Title or Location: Normandy cottage
My wife asked me to paint a country French scene. She said it must have a cottage and a picket fence, so I sketched a scene from imagination, adding a few other elements, then painted it in oil on a 24?x20? canvas. It is actually unfinished, as I am allowing it to dry before adding a wire fence and some glazes.

We called him Icarus.I was Veterinarian Technician at the time and my daughter actually grew up to be a Veterinarian. Such laughs we had with that baby Squirrel!
